The small white building, formerly the townhall opposite the Clock Tower in the upper town now hosts Albufeira’s Archaeological Museum ("Museu Municipal de Arqueologia"), just founded in 1999.

The exhibition is structured into 5 themes: - Pre-historic period - Roman period - Visigoths - Moorish occupation - Modern times

This was where the doorway to the castle used to be. Today only this memorial plaque at the entrance to the upper part of the old town, built on the base of the former Moorish fortress, is evidence of that time in history.

Situated in Rua Bernardino de Sousa, the Clock Tower ("Torre de Relógio") is seen as the landmark of the city. In the 19th century it was adorned with an iron crown which holds the bell and is lit up during festivals.

An ancient Arab mosque, situated in Rua Henrique Calado was a chapel for castle governors In 1499 it was restored and named Capela da Misericórdia. It was also affected by the 1755 earthquake and rebuilt, restoring the gothic style body and entrance.

The chapel, erected in the first half of the 18th century, was the headquarters of the congregation of St. Sebastian, a charitable organisation. Today it is a little museum of sacred art. (“Museu de Arte Sacra »).
